Show BOYS AT industrial SCHOOL DEEPLY AFFECTED form resolutions and serve notice of a thumping to be given the dishonorable from tuesdays standard the officers of tho state industrial school are loud la their praises of the good work done at the institution by juvenile judges landsey of denver and brown of salt lake in speaking of the affair this morning one of the officers stated that the occasion came at a most opportune time aar on the day previous two boys that bad been committed to the institution by judge brown in salt lake had come to the school without being in charge of an officer and presented their commitment mit ment after which they took their clapes in the school the point made by judge landsey on this particular subject was that if judge brown could trust the boys to come to he institution upon their word of honor how much farther we could trust pur own boys mr lindsey rent asunder the idea so prevalent throughout the country that boys sent to the reform school bould not be trusted and gave one of the finest talks ever heard at the school when be began his address before the bittle fellows nho had nev r seen him before the wonder pressed how such a small man could arouse so much interest among the boya in denver but before he had got cn far in his address it was plainly evident that he possessed a wonderful personality that carried the boys to their feet at times there was not a dry eye in the audience it was an ettelt that will be lasting was the opinion of the officers of tho school today which was evidenced yesterday by the boys after the drill had been gone through with instead of going and playing ball as Is usually the case they gathered in groups and formed a resolution to the effect that it any member of the school was caught doing a dishonorable act he would be treated toa thumping by his schoolmates judge ben lindsey stated that he had sent over thirty boys to the reform school from denver all on their word of honor and not one of them had broken their promise to go alone to the institution he alao said that he did not complete his education until he had come to know the average delinquent boy it was then that ha leardi cd what sn itching jig gering etc meant he addressed the boys as b and made them feel at home so that he was not long in winning a place in their hearts today there is a marked change in the atmosphere of the school which the officials hope will continue they have issued an invitation to judge landsey to stop oft in ogden on his return from bis trip to the coast to complete the work that he has so sue cess fully started the boys who come to the institution from salt lake report that audgo willas brown is working wonders among the fellows of that city and is doing an immense amount of good As a result the boys of that place are walking closer to the chalk line than ever before |
