Show Columbia Picks Off Three Victories to Climb AtoD National Leacrue Second Half Standings x - Columbia 4 0 1.000 Lions 2 1 .667 Safewav 1 2 .333 Elks ..." . 1 3 .250 Jaycees 1 3 .250 Columbia climbed into a lead for the second half championship champion-ship of the Cedar National Little League this past week with three victories. Lions were only one game out at the halfway point in the half, Safeway two and Elks and Jaycees down the ladder lad-der three games. Columbia picked up their first of three victories over Elks, 9 to 2, Thursday evening, came up with a 14 to 3 win over Lions then defeated Jaycees Tuesday evening, 9 to 4. Against Elks Allen Lewis allowed al-lowed only five hits in winning the game. Elks tooks a lead in the first inning on a home run by Mark Lunt, the Elks pitcher, but it was Lewis who evened the score in the third with a home run of his own to start the Columbia Co-lumbia scoring. Both pitchers went the distance with Lunt allowing al-lowing only four hits to Columbia. Colum-bia. Lions sent Paul I t'orlett and Layne Spevak to the j mound, giving up 12 hits to the hard hitting Columbia nine. Eric Marchant and Paul Cahoon homered hom-ered for Columbia and Allen Lewis and Eddy Nelson each collected col-lected t'vo doubles in the winning win-ning cause. Eddy Nelson and Alan Lewis shared mound duties for the winning effort for Columbia over Jaycees. They gave up just four hits and four runs. Columbia's nine runs came on ll hits off pitchers David Blackner, Barry Blake and Lynn Davis. Eric Marchant Mar-chant of Columbia doubled for the only extra base hit. Lions came up with a 7 to 6 win over Jaycees last week although al-though Jaycees outhit the Lions 9 to 3. Two nine-year-olds collected col-lected the only extra base hits with Kevin Barney of Jaycees and Mike Rice of Lions each doubling. doubl-ing. Safeway came up with their first win of the second half Monday Mon-day coming from behind to defeat de-feat Elks 14 to 11. Elks took a 7 to 2 lead but Safeway tied it at 7 to 7 then outlasted the Elks for the final victory, Steve Anderson An-derson started and Travis Para-shonts Para-shonts came on to pick up the victory for Safeway. Mark Lunt suffered the loss. Ross Miller and Mark Lunt each homered for Elks and Lunt and Billy Randall also doubled in the losing effort. For Safeway Ronnie Hunt collected collect-ed two doubles, and Kevin Row-ely, Row-ely, Craig Barrus and Paul Proctor Proc-tor each doubled. In the other game of the week Jaycees came up with a 7 to 3 win over Safeway to stop a five game losing streak. Barry Blake and Lynn Davis pulled off the victory on the mound for Jaycees. Jay-cees.
