Show Come From Behind Effort Gives Hunters Colt Victory Hunter Hardware bounced back from a loss the previous week to come from behind here last Wednesday Wed-nesday to nip undefeated Lunt Motor Co. team 9 to 7 in the tight South Utah Colt baseball league race. The two Cedar City teams met for the first time in league play and the clash was witnessed by a good crowd of local patrons. Lunt Motor Co. took an early lead in the contest but the plucky Hunter Hardware crew never gave up and came bouncing bounc-ing back to take the lead and hold it for the final win. In the first inning of play, Lunts pushed over three runs on three hits. Glade McArthur started things off with a single with two away. David Jensen promptly singled and Winn Isom singled to drive in McArthur for the first run of the game. Jensen came in to score the second tally on an error and Isom scored on a double by Gary Whitney. It was the third frame before Hunter's hit the scoring column. Robert Heywood tripled to open the Inning and scored on a single sin-gle by Gale Crlpps. Dennis Mar-chant Mar-chant singled later In the frame to push Crlpps across the plate for the second score. In the bottom of the frame Jensen Jen-sen scored on a single by Whitney Whit-ney after he got on base and moved to third on errors. In the top of the fifth Robert Smith got on on an error for Hunters and scored on a triple by Curtis Anderson but Lunt's continued con-tinued to increase the lead with two tallies in the bottom half of the inning. Jensen doubled and scored on a double by W. Isom and came on to score on a single by Whitney, his third P.3I of the game. At the end cI five frames Lunt's held a 6 to 3 lead. In the sixth Gary Gulliford was hit by a pitched ball, moved to second on a fielder's choice and scored oa a single by Robyn Reld to move the score to 6 to 4 for Lunt's. Lunt's was held in the bottom of the sixth and in the top of the seventh and final Inning Hunter's poured on the coal to come up with the victory scoring five runs on four hits. Gerry Roberts hit an in-the-park-home run to open the Inning. That was folowed by a single by Smith. Marchant was alive on a f IaMp' aKa!a4 ...u : u i Smith. Gulliford doubfed toVend Marchant to third and Reld belted belt-ed an opposite field triple to drive in two runs and came on to score the fifth tally of the frame on a sacrifice by Fella Johnson. Lunts pushed in one run In the bottom of the frame but it was not enough. Curtis Anderson went the distance dis-tance for the winners. Winn Isom was lifted after five frames and David Jenson suffered the loss in relief. Wednesday of this week Hunter Hun-ter Hardware met Picket Lumber Lum-ber of St. George In a game on the Cedar City diamond and Lunt Motor Co. traveled to St. George to tangle with Reber Investment. In-vestment. Hurricane drew the bye. Two games are scheduled Saturday, Sat-urday, July 4. Pickett Lumber and Reber Investment both of St George are scheduled to meet and Lunt Motor Company of Cedar Ce-dar City will travel to Hurricane for a game to be featured In that city's Independence Day Celebration. Celebra-tion. Wednesday, July 8, the second half of play will begin with the two St. George teams meeting and Hurricane will be at Cedar against Lunt Motor while Hunter , will draw their second bye of the season. |
