Show Selective Service Begins Examinations Of Eighteen-Year-Old Registrants This Month Colonel Evan P. Clay, sUte director di-rector of Selective Service, announced an-nounced today that beginning this month, 18-year-old Selective Service registrants classified in Class 1-A will be ordered for armed forces examination as soon as possible. The first group will be examined at the Armed Forces Examining station at Ft Douglas this month. Colonel Clay emphasized this examination is solely for the purpose of determining whether such young men are qualified for military service and will In no way subject them to early Indue- tion Into the armed forces. At the present time, Colonel Clay said, Selective Service registrants in Utah are being Inducted at approximately age 21 or older. The examination of 18-year-old I-A registrants Is part of President Presi-dent Johnson's "War on Poverty" and Its primary purpose Is to let young men know at an early age whether or not they are qualified quali-fied for military service. Those registrants found not qualified for military service will then be 1 made aware of the State agencies that can assist them In civilian employment. |
