Show Winter Deer Problem I Discussed at j Gun, Rod Club Meet At a membership meeting of the Parowan Gun and Rod club on Monday night much time was spent in discussing the local deer problem which seems to be getting worse each winter. Shortly Short-ly after the hunting season ended end-ed the deer began invading the gardens and orchards Inside the city, with many residents claiming claim-ing much damage to young trees, especially newly planted apple trees. S. M. Clark, local game warden, war-den, reported that he had gone out night after night on call of citizens reporting deer in their lots, and had killed quite a number num-ber right in town in an effort to relieve the situation. He reported report-ed that this was the only way he felt the problem could be taken tak-en care of, while other members of the club reported that there was some criticism to this way of ccntroling the invasion. Mr. Clark stated that the deer crossing Highway 91 between Parowan and Summit was creating creat-ing a greater and more serious problem. From one to five head of deer are killed each night on this seven-mile stretch of road, with some also being killed between Summit and Cedar City. The damage inflicted to cars by hitting the animals is causing a heavy economic loss to automobile auto-mobile owners. And although no serious accidents have happened as yet, to injure or kill the occupants oc-cupants of cars, there is a distinct dis-tinct possibility of this happening happen-ing by drivers losing control of their car in trying to avoid hitting hit-ting the animals. The game warden urges everyone every-one to observe the deer crossing signs and drive slow in those area.c to avoid a smashup. |
