Show Kumen L.Jones Re-elected to Head Civic Clubs -. X .- ..... ' A Kumen L. Jones of Ceuar was elected president of the Associated Associat-ed Civic Clubs of Southern and Eastern Utah for the third consecutive con-secutive year, when members and directors met at Richfield last Saturday for the annual election meeting. Mr. Jones has had unusually fine success in leading the organization in many undertakings during the past two years, and with a number of unfinished un-finished projects on the associa tion agenda, was elected to continue con-tinue his service to this area of the state. Officers elected to serve with Mr. Jones were Dewey Sanford of Delta, vice president; Royce Har-wood Har-wood of Loa, second vice president; presi-dent; Paul P. Ashworth of Richfield, Rich-field, director and secretary-treasurer; John Anderson of Heber City and Arthur Barlocker, Enterprise, En-terprise, directors. Two other directors di-rectors will be selected after a geographical study of the area served by the association has been completed. A major subject of discussion at the meeting was the proposed state road bond issue. A proposal pro-posal has been made that a huge bond issue be approved as a means of bringing the highways oi the state up to a standard required re-quired for the present day traffic traf-fic load. Details of the proposal were presented by Dr. EIRoy Nelson, Nel-son, director of the bureau of Economics and Business Research Re-search at the University of Utah, and David H. Whittenberg, chairman chair-man of the Utah State Road Commission. Com-mission. Henry Pearson, executive execu-tive secrtary of the Utah Foundation, Founda-tion, an Independent fact finding find-ing body, weighed the valuation of such an undertaking. The road problems discussion was conducted by Commissioner Lawrence W. Jones of Sevier county. This was the final meeting of the year for the association and a financial report was presented to the board at its meeting in the forenoon by Paul P. Ashworth, secretary and treasurer, and was approved by the board. In addition to the election of officers at the public meeting during the afternoon, reports from standing committees were given, indicating that the organization organi-zation has made good progress on all major projects. A large crowd attended the banquet in the evening at which Dr. Nelson was the principal speaker. He urged the organization organiza-tion to work toward a better; economic Utah by a careful sur- vey of each community's resour- i ces, and some reorganization in certain state departments. |
