Show P-TA Council Seeks Recreation Program For Summer Months The Cedar City Parent-Teachers Association council will petition pe-tition the City Council and the Iron County Board of Education for their consideration of a program pro-gram of community activities for children of the city during the summer months. A decision to submit the request to the council and to ask the school board for cooperation was reached at a meeting of the officers held Wednesday afternoon under the direction of Mrs. Boyd Smith, council president. The council officers point out that many young people of the city enjoy excellent recreation through use of the swimming pool and ii the baseball and softball programs, but that many others, particularly the younger children, are not reached through these programs. They suggest that a recreation program featur-ing featur-ing hobbies and crafts be pro- j vided. Included in such a program pro-gram would be arts and crafts, woodwork, a little theatre program pro-gram for children, nature study,! dancing, story telling and supervised super-vised . play at the park playgrounds. play-grounds. The School Board will be asked to cooperate in the program pro-gram by permitting the use of school shops, and providing instruct in-struct in in arts and crafts. The P-TA council, through the adult education program pf the. community, also plans to provide pro-vide a study program for parents par-ents during the winter months. The council will organize a class on "Our Responsibility as Parents", Par-ents", to open In January, and to be followed later by another iclass on "Understanding the Adolescent Child." |
