Show Minstrel Show Draws 2000 To Fieldhouse A crowd of approximately 2000 people from Cedar City and surrounding sur-rounding towns gathered at the Branch Agricultural college memorial fieldhouse Thanksgiving Thanksgiv-ing evening for the presentation presenta-tion of the 16th annual Cedar City Lions Club Minstrel show. Everyone seemed to be well paid for their efforts, enjoying the show which features songs, mu. sic, dances, stunts, and Jokes in which prominent people of the community were "panned" in the usual minstrel show manner. As usual many of the spectators specta-tors were more interested in "who" than "what", with the fact that the particular member of the club was performing attracting at-tracting more attention than the . act itself. The members of the club participated par-ticipated enthusiastically in the annual event, with the efforts of the entire group contributing to the usual success of the un dertaking. Nearly every member had some part to play in the show, singing in the chorus, helping with preparations, staging, stag-ing, selling tickets, advertising, or doing special acts in the performance. per-formance. Specialty numbers were done by Gordon Christensen, who also was general chairman; Pratt Bethers, Dr. J. S. Prestwich, and Clarence Miller. Reed Berrett was accompanist. A duet was sung by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wood, Forrest Hunter Hun-ter did imitations and sang a solo, Ralph Hafen and Walt Lunt each sang solos, and Alex Ange-lo Ange-lo and Eddie Peterson each did solo song and dance numbers. Dr. Prestwich, besides his specialty spec-ialty performance, sang "Sonny Boy." Mel Cowley, Haze Hunter, Thomas Tho-mas Thorsen and Francis Frye, played two trumpet quartet numbers, num-bers, and were joined in another by Doug Knell, playing a saxophone. saxo-phone. Doug was substituting for Grant Seegmiller, who became ill and could not appear. The Lions Club quartet sang two or three numbers, and were followed by a "paridy" quartet composed of Ray Knell, Whitney Jensen, Bill Harfurthers and Gail Duncan. The Lions quartet is composed of Herschel Neeley, Reed Roberts, Howard Wood and Forrest Hunter. Dances included a "zoot suit" number for Darreli Mathews, Harold Wycoff, Bert Smith and Alex Angelo. This group was directed di-rected by Mrs. Edwin L. Peterson. Peter-son. A "Lady" dance number, directed by Mrs. L. A. Whetten, was done y Bert Givan, Chuck Ahlstrom, Browning Piatt, Norman Nor-man Esmeier, V. R. Magleby and Orville Isom. A dance solo num, ber was done by Miss Sharon Givan. Wes Mullett appeared as a "lady violinist." Nelson Marsden was interlocutor interlocu-tor and end men were Ed Givan, Giv-an, Dan Jones, Dan Crawford, Leo Cahoon, Frank Dalley, Clint Beasley and Pat Fenton. Entertaining while the crowd was gathering were "candy girls" Leonard Whiting, Dr. Reed W. Farnsworth, Theo Corry, Marvin Jones, Ace Terry, Durham Morris Mor-ris and Loran Hirschi. Door men were Ross Glass, Clarence Anderson, Ander-son, Kumen Gardner and Dr. John Beal. The ushers included Morris Roberts, Ren Taylor, Dutch Schmutz, Reed Bradshaw, Cliff Chatterley and Max Webb. Staging and seating arrangements arrange-ments were done by Morgln Slack and Ben Cooley; lights by Eldro Rigby and Orwin Green; stage decorations by Ed Hear-rell, Hear-rell, Ray Anker and Haze Hunter, Hunt-er, and sound direction by Art Higbee. Ed Southwick was chairman of the ticket takers, and Joe Fak-ler Fak-ler and Francis Frye handled the advance ticket sales. |
