FARMINGTON Encouraging Encourag-ing them to join the "Human Race," Linda Stevens of the Davis County Turning Point program invited in-vited commissioners to attend the upcoming event. The "Human Race' will be held May 4, in Kaysville at the DATC and will offer races and other activities ac-tivities for all ages and abilities. Proceeds from the event will be used to help finance programs for Turning Point. The organization helps single parents and displaced homemakers learn skills which will help them return to the work place. "As the numbers of those needing help increases, we've begun to look for creative ways to supplement our program,' Stevens said. She explained funding for the program comes from state and federal fed-eral grants. "We have a lot of people peo-ple now who need help learning to be self-sufficient, and the race is one way to help finance new programs," pro-grams," she said She asked one of the commissioners commis-sioners to volunteer to be master of ceremonies for the event. Immediately, Im-mediately, Commissioner Gerald Purdy volunteered J. Dell Holbrook for the job. He can keep up a running runn-ing commentary on nothing for hours, and that's a compliment," joked Purdy. Commissioner Holbrook accepted ac-cepted the position saying he already knew the topic of his speech. "I'll talk about the other two commissioners," Holbrook said laughingly. |
