Vikings, Wildcats ready for spring BOUNTIFUL TTiough the weather may not bode well as far as prep tennis competition is concerned, con-cerned, coach Gerald Waldvogel and his Viewmont Viking boys' tennis team have found the silver lining in the over-abundant cloud banks. Waldvogel said that even without a lot of preseason competition, he thinks his team can challenge for the Region 1 title. "I have no idea exactly how strong some of these players are coming on because they haven't played anyone yet, but we should challenge for first in the region," Waldvogel said. "We feel like we're going to be really good this year. We're excited." Leading the Viewmont attack will be French exchange student Vincent Pierroot, who will anchor number one singles duties. In the number two singles spot will be junior Jay Hansen, and sophomore Jeremy Jones will fill the number three position. In doubles action, senior Shane Jarvis will team up with sophomore Jared Saibara in the number one spot. Number two doubles responsibilities will be held by the senior duo of Tom Allen and Phil Johnson. WX WILDCATS The rebuilding and recruiting efforts of coach Craig Glover are beginning to pay off at Woods Cross as the team grows in size and talent. The 1991 boys tennis team features the best of over 25 athletes who tried out amarked growth over last year's turnout Still, progress must be measured in many ways, and the winloss column is one of them as the road to a successful season is uphill for the 'Cats. Though Woods Cross started the season off with a 5-0 loss to Bountiful, the program is improving as the athletes have the opportunity to gain much-needed experience.
