West Bountiful's Youth Council is one of three in Davis County, with one in Syracuse and the other in Centerville. The council meets every first and third Monday at 4:30 p.m. Benjamin McAdams was chosen as the mayor of the group, Jason Stock as the junior advisor and Beverly Has I am, city recorder, as advisor with the help of West Bountiful Boun-tiful resident, Vicki Stock. Other council members include: Marian Johnson, Jamie Steele, Cherlyn Lee, Kristi Bangerter, Danny Hop kin son, Ryan Stock and Jeffrey Haslam. "They're a service to the community com-munity and represent all of the youth of West Bountiful " Haslam said. The council also reports on a regular basis to the City Council and Mayor Carl M. Johnson. The council follows its own written charter and keeps the city leaders informed on youth events and issues. The council members were selected by interviews with city residents and leaders. There were 31 applicants, and the 23 unsuccessful unsuc-cessful candidates will be used on several committees formed to help organize events and raise funds for use by the junior council. Applicants had to be at least eighth graders and not yet juniors in high school. Some of the events and activities planned to be carried out by the youth council include youth dances, the annual Easter Egg Hunt, the Fourth of July King and Queen Contest, and the Santa Claus and Fire Truck event during the Christmas season. The youth group recently returned re-turned from the leadership institute at USU, where nearly 300 youths learned the parliamentary process, goal setting and procedures in city government. |
