Show Culinary water fees raised in Centerville CENTERVILLE Culinary water development fees have been raised by nearly $300 in Centerville, Center-ville, with the increase to be divided equally between developers and those seeking building permits. The City Council agreed to increase in-crease the fee from the current $900 for a 34 inch connection to $1,182. Under the new structure, which was approved following a public hearing, hear-ing, the developer would pay half the fee and the applicant for the building permit, usually the contractor, contrac-tor, the other half before the city awards a water improvement contract. con-tract. The new plan not only helps with increased costs for water impact improvements, but also allows the fees to be paid in two segments, rather than all up front. Those present pre-sent at the public hearing seemed to be generally in favor of it. During the same council meeting, the governing board voted not to pass a proposed change in storm drain fees. Currently those fees are charged at a rate of seven percent of raw value of undeveloped ground. The new plan would have called for a set fee of $2,026 per acre for residential property and $4,052 for commercial and industrial property. Though those proposed changes were not passed, the storm drain fees will likely be re-evaluated at a future date by the board. In other news related to development de-velopment within Centerville, the council passed an ordinance related to double frontage lots, the new ordinance or-dinance spelling out that in instances in-stances where double lots are allowed, the Planning Commission can recommend their allowance but the City Council ultimately can approve ap-prove or disapprove their use. The ordinance basically clarifies the council's responsibility in the area of double frontage lots. An ordinance on subsurface drains in new subdivisions was also passed by the council. However, an amendment to the Standards and Specifications for Subsurface Drain Construction in existing subdivisions subdivi-sions was tabled. New development will be the only area affected by the policy statement |
