Drill team and flagtwirler members were announced at the Spring Review. Uintah Utes pocket 1st places The Uintah Ute tracksters pocketed only two first places in the Class 3-A State Tournament, but the two champions, Rick Morton and Kathy Olivers had one thing in common and that was that their crowns were gained in the same event, the 100 meter dash, Saturday at Weber State College in Ogden. ' Morton placed first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.23 and Chivers nabbed the girls' 100 meter dash crown with a time of 13.00. James Turner of Orem placed second at 11.27 and Mike Topps, Ben Lomond, pocketed third place at 11.30. Richard Bennis, South, placed fourth at 11.32 and Steve Hiatt, Payson, garnered fifth place at 11.58. Rory Payne of Bear River captured sixth place at 11.60. West's Connie Kelly pocketed second place at 13.05 and Andrea Claflin, Mountain View, garnered third place at 13.21. Cathy Uremovich, South, gained fourth place at 13.22 and Maxine Smith, West, netted fifth place at 13.24 and Shari Tyler, Timpview, placed sixth at 13.43. The Utes' 440 yard relay team, Greg Limb, Blake Ewell, Troy Liebhardt and Morton pocketed second place with a time of 44.47. South's James Smith, Ken Callahan, Eugene Nelson and Gene Nelson placed first at 44.27. Ben Lomond placed third at 44.59 and Mountain View netted fourth at 44.88. Uintah's Jerry Allred collected fourth place in the 1600 meter run and fifth place in the 800 meter run. Allred recorded a time of 4:27.01 in the 1600 meter run and netted a time of 1:59.60 in the 800 meter run. Dave Andreason, Murray, placed first in the 1600 meter run at 4:20.11 and Provo's Kris Cary garnered second at4:20.96. First place in the 800 meter run was collected by Russell Muir, Jordan, with a time of 1 :57.79 and second place was gained by Andreason, Murray, at 1:58.70. The Utes' Chivers pocketed second place in the girls' 200 meter dash at 26.44. West's Kelly placed first at 26.35. Claflin, Mountain View, placed third at 26.65 and Heather Miner, Provo, captured fourth place at 26.95. Uintah's Kim Hamblin placed sixth in the high jump with a leap of 5'1". Anne Hanson, American Fork, placed first at 5'8". Michelle Green qualified for the finals in the 400 meter dash, but pulled a muscle and was unable to compete. The Uintah boy tracksters tied with Box Elder for ninth in the 3-A meet at 24 points. Mountian View captured first place at 56 counters and Timpview garnered second at 54 points. Murray placed third at 52 points and Orem captured fourth at 49 points. South placed fifth at 48. Uintah's girls placed 11th in the state meet with 19 points. Orem nabbed first place at 69 counters and Carbon placed second at 52. , Allred, Morton and Chivers competed in a high school all-star track meet at Brigham Young University, Tuesday. Pennie Murray was also invited, but was unable to take part due to injuries suffered from a recent motorcycle accident. |
