Show Reduced service Forest budget changes mean management change Recent budget reductions together with inflation are requiring that the Vernal Ranger District of the Ashley National Forest implement some changes in campground management for this season. No campgrounds will be closed, but services provided to campers will be reduced, and operating seasons will be shortened in some cases. A common practice when funding reductions are received is to close campgrounds. We feel total closures should be the last resort. With our current shortage of funds we are attempting to provide only those facilities and services that the user cannot. These include the developed or constructed improvements such as the roads, tables, fireplaces, etc. One of the main changes will be a reduction in the number of campgrounds with trash collection service. This is one thing that campers can provide for themselves. That is pack out their trash when they leave. So, the "Pack k in Pack it out" policy will be in force at several campgrounds. Another change in management will be to reduce the length of time that some campgrounds are operated with full service. Water - may not be turned on until July 1 and daily patrols and cleanup will be lessened. Campers will find that Lodgepole and Red Springs Campgrounds will open with all services from May 27 to Sept. 10.' The fee at Lodgepole is increased from $3 o $4. Red Springs is presently open without water. Iron Springs Picnic Area will be open season-long, but without trash collection services. East Park Campground will be open with all " services from July 1 to Sept. 7. This site will also be open without water, trash services and normal cleanup prior to and after this date. Oaks Psark, Kaler Hollow, and Paradise Park Campgrounds will be open season-long, but without trash collection services, and only infrequent patrols and cleanup stops will be made. v Whiterocks Campground will be open at full services from July 1 to Sept. 7. Whiterocks is presently open without water and trash collection services. District Ranger Floyd Bartlett wishes for all forest visitors to understand that these reductions are necessary in order to keep the campgrounds open. Everyone is asked to do their part in helping to keep the campgrounds and roadsides clean. |
