Show Assault charged in park campground fight A man living at a campground in Dinosaur National Monument was arrested ar-rested and arraigned in 7th Circuit Court Tuesday afternoon on charges of aggravated assault and resisting arrest. ar-rest. Federal charges of possessing a loaded load-ed firearm and discharging a firearm in a national park are pending, according accor-ding to the Uintah County Sheriff's Office. Of-fice. James Clark, 38, is accused of assaulting another campground resident, resi-dent, R. J. Withrew, age unknown. Withrew was not injured. Clark was ar rested Monday night after sheriff's deputies responded to a call about a fight at around 7:30 p.m. Shots were reported fired as deputies were on their way, and Deputy Jeff Merrill, the investigating officer, later said two shots had been fired before lawmen arrived. Merrill said the fight was over when officers arrived and that Clark had gone into his tent. Clark's wife brought the .22-caliber handgun out of the tent, Merrill said. Deputy Larry Crowl said he was hit twice with a fist by Clark as he and two other deputies struggled with the suspect after he was asked to come out of the tent. Clark was being held Tuesday in the Uintah County Jail in lieu of $2,300 bail. A preliminary hearing date was not set. Deputies reported that the front tires of Withrew's truck were shot out. Clark told Circuit Judge Whitney B. Hammond that he and his wife had been in the area three weeks and that he expected ex-pected to start a job May 27. |
