Show Youth orchestra selects students Thirteen members of the Uintah Youth Orchestra achieved their Student of the Month status in the final play-off of the 1981-82 orchestra year by playing Suzuki's Allegro and Long Long Ago at a proficiency score of 90 or above. The students were rated by Director Ora Fay Oviatt and past Student of the Month achievers. Violin students achieving the rating during May were: Richard Evertson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dirk Evertsen, who is a 4th grade student at Ashley Elementary School; Richard Hollebeke, son of Mr. and Mrs. L.W. Hollebeke of Jensen who is a 4th grade student at Naples Elementary; Tayna llackford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kermit llackford, who is a 3rd grade student at Maeser Elementary School. JoAnn Cranney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Cranney, attends Naples Elementary School where she is in the 3rd grade; Mary Ann Morton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Morton, attends Naples Elementary where she is in the Hid grade; Heidi Murray, daughter ot Mr. and Mrs. Larry Murray, a 3rd grade student at Discovery Elementary; Traci Ryan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Ryan, 6th grade student at Maeser Elementary School; Kendra Simmons, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Greg Simmons, attends Discovery j Elementary School where she is in the 3rd grade. Five-year-old Merietta Oviatt is the youngest member of the orchestra. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Oviatt. She will enter kindergarten at Maeser next fall. One viola student achieved Student of the Month status this year. Travis Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Errol Johnson, attends 3rd grade at Naples Elementary School. He will be the sole viola contestant competing in the Student of the Year Play-Offs to be held Tuesday; May 18. All qualifying Orchestra one and Orchestra two students will compete in the Student of the Year Play-Offs being held on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. The students will be adjudicated by the orchestra instructors for proficiency in technique, tonality and musicianship. High point winners will be awarded medals and the coveted Student of the Year trophies at the orchestra concert Friday evening. |
