Show Wood permit available June 1 The Ashley National Forest will have firewood permits available on June 1. Free use and charge permits can be obtained ob-tained at any of the four Ranger District Offices in Vernal, Manila, Roosevelt and Duchesne. Those interested in gathering their own firewood should check with District Rangers for permit information informa-tion and cutting area locations. Firewood harvest areas will be more restricted than in past years and individual in-dividual harvesters will be more responsible for firewood load accountability. accoun-tability. A maximum of eight cords of charge firewood and eight cords of free use firewood has been established for each individual harvesting firewood on the Ashley. The minimum sale on a charge permit will be $10 for four cords. A special charge firewood area has been established in conjunction with the Uinta and WasatchCache National Forests. This firewood area includes a portion of the Duchesne Ranger District, Ashley National Forest, the Heber Ranger District, Uinta National Forst, and the Kamas Ranger District, WasatchCache National Forest. All three forests will combine their resources to manage this joint firewood area. Permits for the special charge area can be obtained at any of the Ranger District offices on any of the three National Na-tional Forests. A two-cord limit is set per individual in this area and the total number of permits issued will be limited to 2,500. The harvest season in this area will be limited to July 1 through Sept. 30. Questions concerning the Ashley firewood program should be directed to District Rangers or Bill Price at the Forest Supervisor's Office in Vernal.
