The class JtJs chosen lavender and deep purple their colors and a rose as their fljjiwer. This year has only five students "aduating. They are Kirstien Ann Bru, vJchael Jerry Harris, Jeff A. Shipton, Jflince Slaugh and Michael A. rdosevich. JThe Manila Brownies and Girl Scouts tJIjlA a special trip to Lagoon Saturday. . The Scouts went to Lagoon on Friday fmA camped out that night and again 'lfturday night. During the day turday, they enjoyed the many tivities at Lagoon. That evening they "ned with 5,000 other girls from across N kh to celebrate the 70th birthday of J Irl Scouting. f Oiaperones for this group were .jlirilyn Maloy , Anna Scott and Krystal inner. Girls were Lisa Scott, Shanna vnrsser, Vicky Marquez, Lynette Wilde, ' cey Anderson. Wendi Lambert, Michelle Parson, Kimberly Maloy and Charmain Hughes. The Brownies went to Lagoon for just the day on Saturday. They enjoyed a picnic, spent four hours taking rides at Lagoon and were back in Manila by 9 p.m. Chaperones for' the Brownies were Mari Campbell, Par Viar, LeNita Steinaker, Diann Jackson and Paulette Welder. Brownies were Kelly Campbell, Sheri Briggs, Aleta Steinaker, Misty Wright, Karinda Briggs, Amy Scott, Annette Maloy, Jennifer Wilde, Melissa Parson and Laurie Jackson. Guests were Melissa Campbell, Christi Viar, Jesse Campbell, Brandon firmini, Heidi Steinaker and Caroline Jackson. The Brownies plan to have their weekly meetings through the summer and every month will have a special event. A 4-H home economics judging contest was held at the Manila High School on May 8. There were two divisions of the contest. One was for senior and intermediate ages and one was for juniors. Winners in the first division were Tammy Wilde (McKinnon), Penny Wilde (McKinnon) and Jennifer Patman ( Manila ) . In the junior division winners were Glenna Tinker (Manila), Wendy Lambert (Manila) and Linda Wilde (McKinnon). Just McKinnon and . Manila members participated although Dutch John was invited. The Daggett County Cancer Fund went over goal again. The goal for this year was $300. Donations were received totaling $407. Crusade Chairman was Peggy Briggs. She was assisted by Rena Pallesen of Dutch John, Carol Slaugh of the Birch Creek area and Lorene Briggs, Mari Campbell, Linda Palmer, Mary Ruble, Fon Slagowski, Kathryn Stewart and Wendi Christensen. This year Mary Steinaker was chapter chairman, Mari Campbell educational chairman, and Mrs. Briggs crusade chairman. The mini-conference held at the Daggett Senior Center in Manila on Friday, May 14 was well attended and active. State guests were Lloyd Nelson, State Division of Aging; Harold Newman, member of the State Board of Aging; Val Jennings, chairman of the State Advisory Board and" Wayne Martinson and Diann Frank of the State Board who coordinated the mini-conference. mini-conference. There were two decisions made. One was that Daggett County commissioner LaRay Sadlier and Mayor Carole Scott go to the utility commission to see what could be done about the quality of electricity in the area. The other was to have some health tests made. Mike Radosevich was selected as the 1982 Sterling Scholar from Manila High School. He received recognition in the field of social science and participated in the regional Sterling Scholar competition held in Roosevelt on April 29. Mike's accomplishments include 1981-82 student body president, 8 years of 4-H experience, speech and drama honors and a member of the Wyoming 4-H Youth Council. The Daggett County Heart Fund campaign that ended several weeks ago recorded a success in the amount of nearly $400. This success is due to the help of several Manila, Dutch John and McKinnon volunteers. A jump rope for heart will be held early in the fall. This campaign will benefit not only the Heart Association but also Daggett County School District by generating 10 percent of the money to be used for PE playground and athletic equipment. The Manila LDS Primary was changed Sunday. Joyce Long and her counselors, Aleta Ellsworth and Judy Hamblin were released. The new president is Susie Mae Reed. Her counselor is Peggy Briggs. Leona Sexton is in Salt Lake City visiting with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Sexton. Mr. and Mrs. James Briggs were in Salt Lake City Saturday and were able to go to several sessions at the temple. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Ron Hamblin this weekend were Ron's mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Ogden, Murray. Mrs. Fay Wall, Salt Lake City, and Artell Thompson, Ogden, were in Manila this weekend to help Eunice Ellison celebrate her birthday. Almost half of America's 12 to 17-year olds see at least one movie a month. |
