Rosenhan contends that with a $20,000 yearly budget, but Ashley City could "squeek by." He also said that it would require the same mill levy as Vernal City's (3.29.). Richard Millett, another Ashley City council candidate, said the cost of the proposed city would depend on the amount of services. Millett said the city would rely on the county for law enforcement. The reason the Ashley residents want to incorporate is they feel that the county commission haven't had the people's best interests at heart, Millett said. Rosenhan said that another reason for incorporating was to protect Ashley's boundaries. Whether or not the Uintah County Commissioners will provide services in the incorporating area is still in the discussion stage. "Naples City has presented us a contract and maybe we will do something," said Merrell Mecham, Uintah County Commissioner. "My view is that a city should take care of itself, so I am hesitant," Mecham said. Incorporation elections for both proposed cities will be May 25. |
