Show USU awards top scholarship A Uintah Hiigh School senior will begin his studies this fall as a University Scholar at Utah State University, announced USU President Stanford Cazier. Daniel Troester, son of Herbert and Theresa Troester, Vernal, was chosen to receive USU's most prestigious, Tour-year scholarship funded through the University Scholar Endowment. He was chosen from among 300 contestants. The award carries a $6,000 stipend. The University Scholar Endowment began 14 years ago and has grown in scope to bestow awards to twice as many student!?. Also, 10 runners-up receive $3,000 s tipends. The endowment is made possible by generous donations from faculty, s taff, alumni and friends of the university. "The endowment has brought nearly 100 outstanding students to campus as University Scholars and, more ( significantly, helped more than 2,000 other competitors decide to attend USU," President Cazier stated. S. "It is impossible to measure how this caliber of student aids in stimulating S and inspiring both classmates and professors, and in attracting peers to USU. The faculty knows what a difference these students make in (ir conducting discussions, lectures and Vs laboratory investigations," he pointed ' ' out. "The presence of these scholars at USU classes raises the standards of performance of all our students," the president added. Daniel is pn jsident of the Uintah High School chapter of National Honor Society, vice president of Science Club and a participant in the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium. A USU Chemistry Merit Scholar, Daniel is a Junior Rotari an and a student member of the Vernal Chamber of Commerce. |
