Mt, M l.'m jfcjaJ THESE 7 AND 9 pound browns are. both from the Flaming Gorge, and according to game biologists they could even be from the same spawn. Some long-time Gorge Brown fishermen believe the ones with fewer, and bigger, spots can attain a much larger size than the ones with more and smaller spots. Fishing contests in Manila By Bill Kan-Manila Kan-Manila Three fishing contests are either in full swing or gearing up to make fishing a money-making proposition. Prizes vary from a free lure for every fish over a certain size being weighed in to 3 grand prizes of $300 cash each or a $600 gift certificate from Anglers Inn for each. The contest are being put on by the Hub Restaurant and Bar on the Wyoming line just out of Manila, Ray Johnsons Real Minnow Lures, Inc. and the Manila Chamber of Commerce. The three contests are all being run separately, and it appears as if all three contests can be entered at the same time. The contest being put on by the Hub is offering 63 prizes, including three first prizes in three contests of $300 cash each or of $600 gift certificate from Anglers Inn, three second prizes of $200 cash, and miscellaneous other prizes including a $100 cash- prize for the largest fish taken by a lady in each contest. The three Hub contests each have numerous events, and one offers a prize for the largest chub caught, another a prize for the largest carp caught, and a final event for the largest "Strange Catch from Lake." Kids are included in this wide-spectrum event, and there are three prizes of $25 gift certificates for the biggest fish caught by kids under 12 years of age. There is a $3 entry fee for the Hub fishing contest, and the ticket must be purchased prior' to catching an entrant fish. Further information may be obtained from the Hub Restaurant or the Lucerne Valley Marina. The Hub contest began May 1st and runs through Labor Day, Sept. 6, 1982. Ray Johnson's Real Minnow Lures, Inc. contest begins June 2nd and runs through Sept. 7, covering the summer of 1982. He also has a contest for Memorial Day weekend. One free Real Minnow lure will be given to every person who weighs in any fish over a required minimum weight at the Mercantile Store in Manila and 1st prize is $100 worth of lures for the largest each brown trout and lake trout during the summer. Second prize is $50 worth of lures for browns and macs, and 3rd prize is $35 worth of lures. First prize winners will also win a free rod and reel. The contest offers a bonus of $50 worth of lures if the winning fish is caught on one of Ray Johnson's Real Minnow Lures, although the catch must be verified by at least three witnesses who see the fish caught on the lure. Further information may be obtained from the Flaming Gorge Mercantile in Manila. The third fishing contest will be put on by the Manila Chamber of Commerce and will be later on in the summer. The Chamber of Commerce fishing contest first prize winner has pocketed in the neighborhood of $400 in V years past. From the looks of these contests, it may just happen that you could win a lure, to catch a fish, to enter a contest, to win either more lures or cash, and pay for your trip. As confusing as it may sound, it just might be worth the family's time to spend some time at the Flaming Gorge. |
