Show 5 trophies are nabbed by fighters Five members of the Vernal Boxing Club emerged as champions in bouts at Minturn, Colorado, Saturday and three other Vernal fighters just barely missed miss-ed winning trophies. Jay Burr, Vernal, 60, decisioned Robert Monroe of Hayden and Jon Culpepper, Vernal, 75, decisioned Leroy Garcia of Leadville. Wes Kroon, Vernal, 77, defeated Monte Fairchild of Leadville due to a TKO and Flynn Paulson, Vernal, 80, toppled Tad Reed of Hayden, Colorado due to a TKO. Jim Lee, Vernal, 60, decisioned Mark Norcross of Leadville. Eugene Woody, Jensen, 130, knocked Billy Jaramillo of Minturn down in the third round, stunned the Minturn fighter in the first round and had complete com-plete control of the match according to Vernal Boxing Club coaches, but the judges awarded the decision to Jaramillo. Chris Crites, Vernal, 60, lost a close encounter to Dallas Robinson of Hayden and Bennie Moore, Vernal, 75, dropped a close match to Gilbert Vas-quez Vas-quez of Minturn. Vernal fighters brought home five trophies and Vernal Boxing Club coaches and fans figured that Vernal should have won three more trophies. The Vernal Boxing Club will compete in bouts in Orem, March 21 and may take part in matches at Dillon, Colorado, Col-orado, Saturday.
