"We've known for some time that unless oil shale or other projects get going, Frontier would pull out by 1983," said Senator Glade Sowards, chairman of the Air Travel Committee. Sowards said he thought the present situation wasn't critical. "If they end their service before 1983, the contract says they must come in with some commuter service." According to Neal Domgaard, County Commissioner, if subsidies are cut off, Frontier could pull out, "but there are ' many things still up in the air." Domgaard said that Frontier has never paid the increased landing fees since they were increased with a new contract last October. "We never forced the issue, in order to keep the service alive," Domgaard said. Over the past two years, 22 subsidized sub-sidized cities' air services have been deleted. Presently 31 cities are subsidized sub-sidized by the federal government to provide air service. |
