Smith's will begin a month long celebration of the grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday at : 9 a.m. ! Throughtout the month, Smith's will j' continue the celebration with special i prices and daily demonstrations of new j products. Some lucky customers will !i win a color TV, or aside of beef, or one, j & the many bags of groceries to be ; given away as special prizes. Customers at the new Smith's will Bnd a wide variety of grocery items, j including the popular No Name Generic products. They will also find the area's j first separate Nutrition Center, an in-,1 in-,1 store bakery, service deli, camera bar, ' professional discount pharmacy, V I wicker department, record-tape-sound 'equipment department, health and H ' beauty aids, plant and flower boutique I and many other products traditionally carried only by drug and department stores. Rick Horner, manager of the new store, commented, "The new Smith's has almost everything a shopper could :i ever want. ..it's truly a one stop shop-, shop-, ping center." Horner, 33, was born in Eagle Rock, Calif., and graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in marketing. He was assistant manager of a Smith's store in Foxhills, Calif., for two years and a manager for one year. He was also a manager of a Smith's store in Los Felis for one year. Upon moving to Utah, Horner was assistant manager of the Smith's Sugar House 23rd No. and 9th East store for eight months. He then opened the new Smith's store in Payson where he was manager for one year. He then moved from Payson to the Vernal store. Horner said that not only is the new Vernal Smith's store one of the more complete stores in the area, but it is one of the most complete in the Smith's chain of stores. Horner said that besides tending the store he likes to hunt, fish and ski. The new Vernal Smith's will provide jobs for more than 75 Vernal and Uintah Basin people with an estimated annual payroll of $800,000. The store has a large, easy access parking lot and will be open from 7a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday thru Satruday and from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays. Smith's is one of the largest privately owned grocery chains in the United States. The Vernal store brings the from Highway 40 at the front of the store or at the rear off Market Drive.
