Show Uintfcah floppies Cedear City in 3-A sfcatfe tfoumament The Uintah Ute girl hoopsters acquired a victory in the first round of the 3-A State Tournament in Provo, Monday, when they thumped Cedar City, the first place team from Region 6's Division 2, 58 to 47. Uintah battled Orem, the first place team from Region 6's Division 1, Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Timp View High School. Orem downed Highland in the first round. Uintah placed third in Region 7. The Utes will battle Odgen, Timp View, Carbon or Judge Memorial, Friday at 6:15 p.m. (second round winners) or 4:15 p.m. (second round losers) at Timp View High School in Provo. Uintah grabbed a nine point lead of 17 to 8 after one quarter of action in the game with Cedar City. Rhonda Rhodes was the top scorer for the Utes in the first quarter with six points on three field goals. Chris Mott tossed in five points on one field goal and three free throws. Darian Abegglen, Jodene Merkley and Teresa Smith fired in two points each. The Utes flipped in ten points in the second quarter for a 27 to 20 lead. Smith fired in two field goals for four points and Heidi Green and Pennie Murray scored three counters. Uintah poured in 15 points in the third quarter for a ten point lead of 42 to 32. Abegglen tossed in five points on two field goals and one free throw and Mott put in two field goals for four points. Smith hit for two free throws and one field goal for four points and Green added two points. The Utes outscored the Cedar City Redwomen, 16 to 15 in the fourth quarter, to make the final score: Uintah, 58 and Cedar City, 47. Uintah fired in 22 field goals and hit 14 out of 35 free throws. Murray put in five points on two field goals and one free throw and Jorgensen scored four points. Mott scored three points and Merkley, Smith scored two points.
