Approximately $500 million mil-lion worth of chlorofluorocarbons, chlorofluoro-carbons, also known as CFCs, are sold annually in the U.S. More than 780,000 jobs are related to CFC use and approximately 260,000 domestic businesses use the chemicals. An essential component j to home, office, auto and truck air conditioning, and home and grocery store refrigeration, re-frigeration, and an element in much insulation, CFCs help hold down the cost of . energy. Without them, esti-5 esti-5 mates the Alliance for Re-( Re-( sponsible CFC Policy, a na-' na-' tional coalition of CFC users and producers, there would be a possible net , energy loss of close to 50 billion gallons of fuel in a ; decade. That's roughly equal to the amount of gasoline needed to drive 7 million cars for 10 years.
