Show City approves zone for condominiums The Vernal City Council approved the rezoning of 45 acres at 500 West and 600 South for multiple dwellings, but denied the rezoning of 100 East and 600 South for storage units at last week's council meeting. According to Bob Nicholson, city-county city-county planner, the planning committee com-mittee recommended approval of rezoning along 500 West for a 374-unit condominium development because of the critical need for housing in the area. John Carmine, architect representing represen-ting Don Millecam, showed the council a plat of the development and said that it wasn't their intention to maximize the number of units on the property by having the zone changed from RA-1 to R-3. "The reason for the request to change the zone is to allow for 8-plexes," Carmine said. There will be 8' 5 units per acre with a minimum setback of 100 feet, Carmine said. The only access to the first phase of the project is from 500 West. Other access roads will be added as ail the phases are completed. The project will be fully landscaped with tennis courts and a swimming pool, "to minimize the need of city services for recreation," Carmine said. Councilman Jack Seitz made the motion to accept the rezonning request and the motion passed. The council denied the rezoning of Lloyd Swain property at 100 East and 600 South for commerical storage units. The planning committee recommended the denial "because the property is going residential." Karl Migilori, councilman, moved to deny the request and the motion passed. In other action, the council postponed approval of the revenue sharing budget for two weeks to see the effect the state legislature would have on local taxes. The council also approved a city engineering contract with Horrocks Engineering, Roosevelt, until June 30. |
