Show Ashley Stake conference The importance of forsaking worldly pleasures and seeking after spiritual goals was stressed at the Vernal Utah Ashley Stake conference general session Sunday by Joseph B. Wirthlin; member of the First Quorum of . Seventy, visiting general authority; Elder Wirthlin also stressed "the importance of the church missionary ' program and stressed that all members can be missionaries by living the gospel. Mrs. Wirthlin also spoke at the conference. Other speakers at the conference included President Nyle C. Bigelow, who conducted the conference. He told of the many thoughts he had recently while in the hospital awaiting tests. The temptations and problems of others become real when we place ourselves in their situations, Pres. Bigelow explained. ex-plained. President Glade Watkins spoke concerning the importance of heeding the council of church leaders. Pres. Don Brown spoke on living for the spirit of the Holy Ghost. Youth speakers were Rakeyl Massey whose subject was "Why I Want a Temple Tem-ple Marriage," and Jeff Good, "How to Prepare for your Mission." Bert L. Angus, stake Patriarch, was called on to bear his testimony at the conference. Business of the conference was conducted by Pres. Watkins as follows: Those released were: Darel A. Nelson, stake executive secretary; Bryce Caldwell, stake Sunday School president; Paul Jensen, first counselor Sunday School; Nicholas Eaton, second counselor Sunday School; Lane Clabaugh, secretary Sunday School; LuRae Caldwell, in-service director Sunday School; Ron Enloe, athletic specialist on the stake activities committee; Cindy Fountaine, music director stake primary. Those sustained were: Don Mecham, stake executive secretary; Paul C. Jensen, stake Sunday School president; Jack R. Wallis, First Counselor; Dee C. Wilcox, second counselor; Carma Cook, secretary stake Sunday school; Glen E. Allred, athletic specialist on the stake activities ac-tivities committee; Jack Sheffer, assistant athletic director; Jeffory Calder, assistant to the president of the young men; Patricia Jensen, music director stake primary; Roland Merkley, executive director of the bi-stake bi-stake farm. Those sustained to receive the Melchizedek Priesthood and be ordained or-dained Elders were Joseph Vernon Griffin, Loren Stewart Jones, Ronald Ned Stagg; to be ordained Seventy were Lynn Brown and Julian Eldon Walton; to be ordained High Priests were Peter Bryce Erickson, Wilford Edwin Evans, Richard Harry Gilbert, and Edward Warren Belcher. At the 8:30 a.m. session of conference Elder Wirthlin stressed the importance of genealogical work and to set goals for four generation sheets, personal and family histories, participation in the extraction program when called upon, and go to the temple where practical. |
