Mark Robb scored Uintah's first points of the game when he roared 68 yards down the right side of the field for a touchdown early in the first quarter on only the second offensive play of the game by the Utes. "I thought the field was going to be slick with the rain, but it was like a sponge. You could cut real good. The play was an off-tackle blast. When I got through the line there were two guys in front, so I cut to the right. One of our blockers got one of the guys and then I cut to the right. One of our blockers got one of the guys and then I cut to the outside and then it was smooth sailing up the sideline," stated Robb. Robb added, "One guy dove at me and he hit my feet, but I kept my balance and kept on going. The whole front line gave me good blocking on my touchdown run." One item that was working well for the Uintah Utes in the game was the double pass. "We had to set it up with an end sweep and when the defense moved in to stop the sweep our halfback would pass the football," remarked Uintah head football coach, Curg Belcher. Warby and Robb connected with receivers during the game on halfback passes. Robb hit Smuin with a halfback aerial for a 15 yard line on the first play in the game by the Utes and Warby hit Smuin at the Murray seven yard line late in the second quarter. "When Pat Jenkins threw the ball to me, Smuin was wide open so I just tossed it out to him. He carried the ball to the ten yard line," said Warby. Uintah's two other points were also scored in an excitable say as Smuin blocked a punt for a safety. "I just about got it the first time so coach told me to go after it on the next punt. The ball hit me on the shoulder and it went out of the end zone before I could get it or it would have been six instead of two," stated Randy Smuin. The Utes had an 8-0 lead at the end of the first half and had the ball within Murray's ten yard line three more times, but they were unable to get into the end zone. "It was a very tough loss. I felt we were in command of the ' first half but we just let 18 " from us in the second half rIk a a touchdown on a 68-yard'ruTn good run and a lot of good'k ? - opened it up.
