Uintah topples Murray The Uintah volleyball team improved its second place record in Region 7 to 3 wins and 1 loss with a two game victory over the Spartans in Murray, Oct. 14. Murray jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first game, but Uintah rallied to win the first game in overtime, 16 to 14. The Utes won the second game by the score of 15 to 10. "We were behind 9-0 before we ever scored. We started making one point at a time to get back in the game and we started hitting the ball. Chris Mott gained six service points in a row, 1-6, to get us going," stated Uintah volleyball coach, LoaKay Bowthorpe. The top varsity scorer for Uintah in the varsity battle with Murray was Mott with six points. Darian Abegglen was the high Uintah scorer in the second game with eight points. Abegglen scored four service points in a row in the second encounter. Uintah's junior varsity team downed Murray, 15 to 5 in the first game and 15 to 9 in the third game. Murray won the second, game, 15 to 12. Julene Johnson was the high scorer in the first game for Uintah with four points. Lynnette Merrell, Margie Merrell and Wendy Fletcher added three points each. Chanta Julius and Deah Bennion scored one point each. Lynnette Merrell was the high scorer in the second game for Uintah with six points and Fletcher and Pennie Murray scored two points. Nanette McCurdy and Johnna Wiseman scored one point. Mae Lynn Gray was the top Uintah scorer in the third game with five points and McCurdy scored four points. ' Margie Merrell and Wiseman scored three points. The Utes will battle the Longhorns in Altamont, Thursday at 5:30 p.m., and 7 p.m., and the varsity Utes will clash with Cyprus at the University of Utah, Saturday at 11 a.m. The University of Utah will battle New Mexico at 1 p.m. The Utes will take on Judge Memorial in Vernal, Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., and will battle Jordan on the road, Oct. 30. The Utes will host Murray on Nov. 4 and will take on Tooele in an away contest on Nov. 6. |
