Show ' Manila Clara Robinson Phone 784-3463 Hill! ' M&L Homemakers to hold bazaar (Too lute for IiinI week) The M&L Hom.akers Club is planning a bazaar to be held Nov. 5 at the senior citizen center. People have been invited from Dutch John, McKinnon and Green River. Members are welcome to invite other guests. The M&L Homemakers Club has been invited to attend the Dutch John bazaar to be held Oct. 15. The regular meeting of the club will be held Oct. 16 at the Senior Citizen center. Plans will be made at this meeting for the Thanksgiving dinner and the Christmas party. The town of Manila is in process of getting another councilman to replace Grant Maloy who is moving to Rock Springs, Wyo. Two names were presented at the regular meeting of the Town Council, Oct. 9. Those present selected one name, but are not certain to the legality of the procedure and will seek advise from Attorney Clark Allred. Some campaigning has been done in the areas for the up coming election. Those competing locally are Republicans, Carl Collett - 4 year commissioner; com-missioner; William M. Briggs - 2 year commissioner; Democrats, George Ellsworth - 4 year commissioner and Jerry Taylor - 2 year commissioner. Every Wednesday noon Daggett County Senior Citizens will enjoy a dinner din-ner at the Senior Citizen Center. On the last Wednesday of each month in addition addi-tion to the dinner at noon, a social will be held in the evening. As the last Wednesday of the month in October is Oct. 29, a pie social will be held with a Halloween theme. Sheriffs officers were called to two fights Saturday night. A McKinon man suffered minor injuries in one of the fights. A Green River, Wyo., woman threatening to commit suicide led Sheriffs officers on a three county ucKa's'e.the woman, displaying S'knif'e1 refused to pull over for Daggett County off icers. After several tries, the woman was slopped at Lone Tree, Wyo., with the assistance of Sweetwater and Uintah Uin-tah County deputies. Uintah County officers of-ficers arrested her at the scene. Mrs. Kathryn Brazieal and daughter, Mimi. visited in Manila this weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Steinaker, Jr., Mrs. Brazieal was former teacher in Manila and is teaching in Provo now. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Anderson of Idaho Falls, Idaho visited with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gaylen Jarvie this weekend. In the past two weeks, the high temperature has dropped from 84 degrees above zero to 68 degrees above zero. The low has dropped from 45 above zero to 32 above zero at the weather station. Other spots in the area have reported freezing. The weather has been dry, but .08 inches of moisture fell Sunday evening. Sunday was cloudy and a little windy. Monday was warmer. Mrs. Marion Sexton is home again. She came from Salt Lake City, with her son and daughter-in-law and daughter. Her daughter plans to remain with her. The Boon Docks Cafe is closed. Former manager, Glen Haney has moved away Haney was active in the community and the LDS Church being a counselor in the bishopric at the time he left. Some potatoe picking is in progress in the area. The Manila LDS Relief Society members are working hard to get everything ready for the "Country Fair" to be held Oct. 17. Items for sale will be all kinds of needle work, crafts, art, toys, baked goods, plus dinner. The funds for the fair are to help with the addition to the chapel. Mrs. Curtis Slaugh is home after spending three days in Idaho Falls, Idaho and four days in Vernal. Mrs. Slaugh went to Idaho Falls with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Shirley Peterson of Green River, Wyo. They visited another daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Slagowski in Idaho Falls and visited other relatives as they returned. Upon reaching home she received a call that her sister, Mrs. Dezzie Goodrich of Vernal was ill and in the hopsital. She went to Vernal with her "" granddaughter, Mrs. John Despain who was visiting her husband through the long weekend. In Vernal she visited with three of her sisters. Due to UFA in Salt Lake City, Thursday and Friday there was no school in Daggett County. Students enjoyed en-joyed a lour day weekend. |
