'Women of Achievement' to be honored at Governor's Mansion National Business and Professional Women's Week is held Oct. 19-25 as proclaimed by Mayor Samuel Snyder. Winner of this district's Achievement award is Dr. Colleen Colton of Vernal. Part of the official activities for BPW Week will include a tea to be held in Salt Lake City at the Governor's Mansion on Saturday, Oct. 25, to honor the "Women of Achievement" from the various districts. Those attending from Vernal will be Dr. Colton, Rhoda DeVed, Ethel Bowden, Pearl Shaffer and Betty Zeller. A window display will be in Thome's Studio in Vernal telling of part of the story behind BPW. Dr. Colton, the winner of this district's achievement award, is an elementary school principal with a staff of 36 teachers, personnel, and 615 students. In her spare time she is a member of ' the Vernal Chamber of Commerce, teaches Sunday School, is in the presidency of the young women's association in her church. She gives talks at community and service group events, chairs a hospital fund raising drive, a health and medical committee and the community immunization drive. Dr. Colton is on the Governor's Committee on Sex Role Stereotyping. She is a past president of a Utah Federation of Women's Club and belongs to several other organizations.;! She is a science consultant to Holt-Rinehart, Holt-Rinehart, textbook company, and is a member of the State Textbook Adoption Committee. She holds an EdD in edication from BYU; a masters degree from the University of Utah and a B.S. frorii USU. |
