Show Afoli Uinfcah OSes rretfymfei flhe days oG the 1960s? ; By Aldon Rachele The committee appointed by the Legislative Council to study realignment realign-ment will make its recommendations to the Legislative Council on Nov. 10' and one of the recommendations for the 1981-82 school year that will be made is that 3-A school Uintah, 2-A Union and 1-A 1-A schools, Altamont, Duchesne, Tabiona and Manila will be placed in the same region, which will be known as Region 11. Other 3-A recommendations are as follows: Region Five-Bear River, Ben Lomond, Box Elder, Intermountain, Logan, Ogden; Region 6-Jordan, Judge Memorial, Murray, South, Tooele, West and Region 7-American Fork, Carbon, Cedar City, Dixie, Lehi, Mountain View, Orem, Payson, Pleasant Grove, Provo, Spanish Fork, Springville, Timpview. 2-A and 1-A recommendations are: Region 8-2A-Delta, Hurricane, Juab, Manti, Millard, North Sanpete, North Sevier, Richfield, South Sevier; Region 9- 2A-Grantsville, Morgan, North Summit, Park City, South Summit, Wasatch and lA-Dugway, EskDale, Mt. Vernon, North Rich, Realms of inquiry, Rowland Hall St. Mark's, South Rich, St. Joseph, Tintic, Utah School for the Deaf, Wendover; Region 10- 2A-Emery County, Grand County, San Juan and lA-East Carbon, Green River, Monticello, Whitehorse and Region 12-1A-Beaver, Bryce Valley, Enterprise, Escalante, Gunnison, Kanab, Milford, Panguitch, Parowan, Piute, Valley, Wasatch Academy, Wayne. 4-A recommendations are: Region 1-Bonneville, 1-Bonneville, Clearfield, Layton, Roy, Sky View, Weber; Region 2-Alta, Bingham, Brighton, Hillcrest, Kearns, Taylorsville; Region 3-Cottonwood, East, Granger, Granite, Olympus, Skyline and Region 4-Bountiful, Cyprus, Davis, Highland, Viewmont, Woods Cross. It will also be recommended that any region may divide into playing leagues within the region. The next legislative council meeting will be held at Murray High School at 1 p.m. on Nov. 10. ' Having Uintah, Union, Tabiona, Manila and Duchesne and Altamont in the same region will cut down on travel expenses, but the reason the old Class B which had Uintah, Union, Duchesne, Tabiona, Altamont and Manila in the same class, was done away with was that it wasn't considered fair for small schools such as Duchesne, Altamont, Manila and Tabiona to have to battle bigger schools, Uintah and Union. Nobody knows what the final score will be in a football game, but the point is that Vernal Junior High has defeated Altamont and Duchesne's junior varsity teams in past years and Tabiona and Manila played baseball in the fall of 1980 instead of football and if they decide to play football in 1981 they will be in their rookie seasons. The question is, will Manila, Tabiona, Duchesne and Altamont be able to compete with 3-A power, Uintah and not get stomped. Union has given Uintah some close battles in the past, but will Altamont, Duchesne, Tabiona and Manila be able to give the Utes some close encounters. Some people from Altamont Duchesne, Tabiona and Manila migh say "You have some nerve saying that we won't be able to compete with the Uintah Utes. We have as good a chance of beating them as anyone." However, the point is that some games might be slaughters and that could give the Utes a case of the overconfidence blues as they go into the state tournament, which was one of the reasons given when region basketball champion, Uintah, was knocked out of the. 1969 Class B State Tournament in the first round. Ute and Cougar fans in the 1960's would say, "If we didn't have to play those small schools in our region we would be better prepared for the state meet." This reporter feels that i a Altamont, Duchesne, Maii Tabiona should battle each 1 Region 11 and that 3-A Ca Emery County, 2-A WasatchTY added to Region 11 to battle Taj?! ' and 2-A Union. The best 2-A team A team would advance to Si tournament or playoff with a tJ another region. Kai Another way of solving the m would be to put Uintah in one ofn! regions. However, that would some travel problems. If Uintah I in Region Five, Six or Seven there be a lot of traveling to do, but all they wouldn't have to clash with. A schools in region encounters |
