Show Issrsriiiliipj Bn Bur lites By an overwhelming majority, ma-jority, Americans feel that the future benefits to society soci-ety from technological advances ad-vances outweigh the risks, . and that the development of advanced technology ought to continue in as uninhibited unin-hibited a regulatory environment environ-ment as reasonably possible. These surprising conclusions conclu-sions come out of a landmark land-mark study of attitudes, "Risk in a Complex Society," Soci-ety," conducted by Louis Harris Associates for Marsh & McLennan, Incorporated, the world's largest insurance broker. The survey, based on more than two thousand interviews with the public, business executives and federal officials, also shows that a plurality of the public feel people should be allowed al-lowed to decide for themselves them-selves whether or not to use food products linked to cancer can-cer such as nitrites and saccharin. The public is willing to accept full responsibility for such decisions, however. |
