Show SUIT CLUBS MUST PAY HIGH LICENSES Measure Fixing Tax at $500 Annually Is Passed by the City Conrrnission. The proposed high license ordinance for "suit clubs" was enacted yesterday by the city commission, imposing a license tax of $500 annually on all concerns con-cerns or persons participating in the promotion pro-motion of "suit clubs." The ordinance defines a "suit club" as any arrangement or organization by which sale of suits or other wearing apparel ap-parel is conducted by installment payments pay-ments with uncertainty as to what amount shall be paid by the purchaser before be-fore delivery is ultimately made. A companion ordinance prohibiting the operation of lotteries was enacted. It is In accordance with the state statute on the question and allows prosecution in the city court of violations. The board of county commissioners is considering the enactment of an anti-lottery ordinance ordi-nance to prohibit games of chance at amusement resorts. The city recorder was authorized to advertise for bids for contract to pave Iowa avenue, extending from Second to Third South, between Ninth and Tenth East streets. Construction of a fence 960 feet long, paralleling the road past the Parley's canyon reservoir, as a safeguard for traffic, was authorized, the estimated cost being $300. |
