Show GERMAN EDITORS ARE REINDICTED BY JURY Pro-German Utterances in New Jersey Publication Responsible for Action. NEWARK, N. J., May 14. Indicted last October under section three of the espionage act for "making treasonable utterances" in their newspaper, the former for-mer owners and three members of the editorial staff of the New Jersey Kreie Zeltung, a German language newspaper published here, were reindicted today by a federal grand jury under section four of the same act, on a charge of conspiracy con-spiracy to circulate "false reports and statements while the country is at war" and for "interfering with the nation's prosecution of and success in the war." The indictment returned today will be substituted for that returned last October. Octo-ber. The govern rnent sought the new indictment because of the recent acquittal ac-quittal of the editors of the Philadelphia Philadel-phia Tageblatt, who were indicted on similar evidence. Included in the indictment were Benedict Ben-edict and Edwin S. Prieth, former owners own-ers of the paper, and three of their employees, em-ployees, William von Kotzeler, managing editor; Henry Waechter, city editor, and Hans von Hundelshausen, a reporter. There are 165 overt acts charged in the indictment. |
