Show STATEMENT SAID TO BE DUE TO ERROR IN COMPILATION OTTAWA, May 14. The statement that it had been decided not to use American Ameri-can forces in France until they had become be-come a "complete, powerful, self-supporting American army" was incorrect and "due to an error in compilation," according accord-ing to a statement received from the British government by the Canadian government gov-ernment and made public today as "official "offi-cial news." The reference, which is now corrected, was contained in a summary of operations opera-tions on the British front made public here Sunday night last as coming from the war committee of the British cabinet. The statement from the British government govern-ment given out today says that, owing to the error in compilation, it was not made clear that the reference related to the period when America first joined the war and had no relation to present events, whereby the American army is being brigaded with the entente armies. The statement from the British army follows: "War office summary. A correction should he made in the weekly circular telegram, dated May 10, summarizing operations to May 9. the text of which read: "tenlentc so confident that, given choice of small immediate American army for defense or waiting wait-ing till reinforced by complete, powerful, pow-erful, self-supporting army, have chosen latter." Owing to an error in compilation, it was not made clear that this related to the period when America first Joined the war and had no relation lo present events, whereby the American army is being brigaded with the entente armies. |
