Salt Lake will face a street car strike Saturday morning if the action suggested by members of the executive board of the street car men's union at a meeting held last night to take seps to oppospe the.tryout of the one-man one-man system of operation, is given tho approval of the union as a whole. The executive session, it is said, was held at the instigation of the car men. For the purpose of bringing the matter mat-ter before all the car men the executive execu-tive committee has called a mass meeting meet-ing for 2 o'clock tomorrow morning at the labor temple. J. A. Keeder, secretary of the local union, said it was his opinion that, the union would unanimously vote to prevent a tryout of the one-man system sys-tem for the experiment. It is claimed by tho street car men that the company is not justified in having a, tryout of the new system, in view of tho fact that neither they nor the public have been given an opor-tunity opor-tunity to have a hearing on tho matter. mat-ter. They further claim that the system sys-tem has not proved a success in other cities where it has been tried. When informed last night of the action ac-tion of the executive committee. Manager Man-ager H. F. Dicke of the Utah Light aud Traction company expressed surprise that the men Should take a stand against the proposed tryout of one-man one-man operation, especially in view of the fact that the order of the public utilities commission is only tentative. Mr. .Dicke said the company had not changed its decision to inaugurate one-man one-man operation on the Wandamere-First South line and the Center street line Saturday morning. |
