"Win the War by victory and not by compromise bargaining" was the Keynote of the convention con-vention of the Indiana Republicans, which nominated a state ticket and adopted adopt-ed a platform for the November election here today. The delegates ami spectators, specta-tors, at times, wildly applauded the patriotic sentiments expressed by the Speakers and In the riaiiorm, which was submitted to the convention by Will H. Hays, chairman of the Republican national na-tional committee, a fact which gave to the platform an added significance as an judication of the national policy of the .ublican party. Declaring that President Wilson is the most astute leader the Democratic party ever had. United States Senator Harry S. New of Indiana, addressing the convention con-vention as permanent chairman, asserted that he is also the "most uncompromising hi his partisanship of any man who has occupied the White House since the days lof Andrew Jackson." Senator New continued: con-tinued: "President Wilson is a partisan in everything lie does or thinks as adroit as he is persistent. It is evident that the slogan of his party In the campaign before us is to be, 'Stand by the president," presi-dent," and the. attending argument that, if one is a patriot and a true American, he must elect the candidates of the president's presi-dent's party for seats in congress in order that he may have support in that bocy; or that if one fails to support those candidates, he votes to discredit the president and his administration and gives aid and comfort to our enemy In arms. Senator New declared that President Wilson had had every possible support . from the Republican party in every step ' taken or contemplated with reference to rthe war. "Our message to the presldenl." said Senator New, "is: 'Go ahead. We are " with you heart and soul, in life and in purse things that have to do with the winning of the war; but, make no mistake, mis-take, we abate no particle of our devotion devo-tion to the party of our choice and yield nothing of our principles, but reassert them.' |
