Show STERLING LEADS III RACE FOR SENATE Leads Competitor in South Dakota Primaries by 1000 Votes. SlOt'X FALLS, Si D., May 29. Senator Sena-tor Thomas Sterling- of Vermillion tonight to-night was leading his opponent, Frank M. Byrne of Faulkton, i'or renomluation for United Stales senator, hv annrnvl- mately 104)0 votes, according to incomplete incom-plete returns from over the state in yesterday's yes-terday's primary election in South "Dakota. "Da-kota. Returns have been coming in very slowly, and it probably will be forty-eight forty-eight hours or longer before final returns re-turns a re received, C. H. Christopherson of Sioux Falls and C. H. Dillon of Yankton are running run-ning neck-and-neck for representative in congress from the First district. No figures fig-ures are available, but politicians declare de-clare the vote will be so close that it probably will be necessary for the official offi-cial count to determine the outcome. T. W. Dwight of Sioux Falls is running several sev-eral hundred votes behind Christopher-son Christopher-son and Dillon. Royal C. Johnson of Aberdeen has received re-ceived such a large ma jori ty over his opponent, Donald McLean of Webster, that he probably will bo elected representative repre-sentative in congress from the Second district. The race for attorney genera! is between be-tween Howard G. Fuller of Pierre and Byron S. Payne, also of Pierre. The vote is so incomplete that it is impossible to give accurate figures. All the above are Republican candidates. candi-dates. The Democratic and Socialist returns are very incomplete, but those figures at hand indicate that John F. Kelly probably will be the Democratic nominee nomi-nee for senator. |
