Show ROCHESTER SHOWS " GBEAlAGTiViTY Mines Push Development Work; New Mill to Be Constructed Soon. ROCHESTER, Nov., March 22. The upward movement in mining affairs in this district is being accalcratecl with the appearance of better weather and it apparently will rapidly increase io momentum from this time forward. Important Im-portant new developments are in evidence! evi-dence! in the mines and construction will soon be commenced on two new mills. Construction on the Nenzel Crown Point mill in American canyon, on the east sido of Nenzel hill, is planned to begin about May 1, ami will be rushed to completion as rapidly as possiblo so It may bo ready for operation before the next winter sets in. In the meantime mean-time the various bi ore bodies that have been opened by the crosscut tunnels tun-nels will be placed in readiness for a largo output and other necessary work for extensive mining of ore will be com plctod. The 300-foot vortical raise from the rit.t-Neii7.el tunnel to connect with the Crown Point workings which enter from the Amorican canyon slope is now under un-der wnv and sinking is in progress from tho drift on tho Zero vein above to meet the raise. , The raise is in excellent excel-lent ground for good headway, and if present favorablo conditions continue it is believed tho connection can be made within thirty-five days. By a fortunate circumstance tho point from which sinking sink-ing starts in the Zero drift is in a large body of ore that samples $1(5 a ton, so the Winze will servo the double purpose of assisting in making the proposed con- nection with the ritt-Nenzel tunnel and also develop this oro as long as the vein continues on the eourso of the winze. After the dip of the vein carries car-ries it out of the winze it will be an ensv matter to again reach it by cross-cutting cross-cutting after the raise is completed.-Other completed.-Other portions of the property that are under development are making gratifying gratify-ing showings. An interesting new discovery is reported re-ported on the Sim-foot level -'of the Koehester Mines company, where a crosscut is being driven into the foot-wall foot-wall of the vein, revealing a large body of ore that shows liberal quantities of native silver. Development has not progressed' far enough to determine at this time tho full extent of this ore 1 bodv. The usual good showings are being be-ing maintained in other active workings of the mine. The last cable for the new aerial tramway from the Friedman tunnel tun-nel to the Rochester Mines company's mill is now being stretched on the towers tow-ers and the work will be completed within a few days. Rochester United, which has 240 acres between Rochester Mines and Rochester Roches-ter Merger on the north and Rochester Combined on the eoulh, is energetically pushing development work through two tunnels. Ore that pans well in gold is being encountered in the work in the Ilicuins tunnel on the Sunflower vein. Although these values are now somewhat some-what erratic the indications are encour-agini encour-agini for a well defined ore bodv being opened soon. In the Silver King. tunnel, tun-nel, 300 feet lower and 750 feet further south-, crosscuts are being driven east and west from the main boro to develop a series of veins from that point. Activities are increasing at a rapid race at the Rochester Combined, in the Packard section. Ore developments in the Shepherd No. 1 tunnel are of surprising sur-prising magnitude as are also results in other workings. Development is being be-ing pushed with machine drills in all tunnels, drifts and crosscuts, and another an-other compressor of eight-drill capacity will be installed at tho mine within a few dnvs to augment the work on this property. Surfaco trenching 1000 feet north of the present workings is reveal ing gooa noat auu sueuus ui ,mv aiuni; the trend of the big vein in the Shepherd Shep-herd tunnel, indicating that the miner-aliatiou miner-aliatiou is very extensive. Preparations are progressing for beginning be-ginning construction at an early date on the first 300-ton unit of the big mill which is planned to be ready for operation oper-ation by November 1. Contracts for this unit have already been let. Buildings are now in 'course of construction con-struction on the new townsite adjacent to the town of Packard, and several business men of Lovelocks and Rochester Roches-ter are planning to locate there. This will undoubtedly be a thriving village within a short time, with postoffiee, stores and other conveniences. Tn the lower Rochester section development de-velopment and production are being continued con-tinued on the Buck and Charlie, Lincoln Lin-coln Hill, Flunkey, Home Trail and other properties. |
