Show OFFERS $1,000,000 FOR RELIEF FUND Chicago Merchant Says Succor of Jews in War Zone Obligation on the lUce. NEW YOKK, March 22. Julius Eo-Benwald, Eo-Benwald, president of Sears-Koebuck & Co. of Chicago, wired the American Jewish relief committee today a conditional condi-tional offer of $1,000,000 to feed and clothe Jewish war sufferers. The relief committee has announced $10,000,000 as the amount that must be raised immediately imme-diately if 3,000,000 Jews in the eastern war zone are to be saved from death. Mr. Kosenwald will pay $100,000 as each million is raised. In his telegram Mr. Rosenwald said that thousands of Jewish men, women and children were dying daily in Europe from cold and starvation and that ''this colossal tragedy constitutes an obligation obliga-tion upon American Jewry that must bo met to the point of sacrifice. The Russian revolution affords our people tiie channel for which they have waited for long centuries. It is not life alone that we can give them, but strength and courage to take their part in tho great drama of freedom." Officers of the committee said that Mr. Kor-enwalil's full million would be secured. |
