Spirited fighting in the sector over which the Germans have been retiring was reported in today's official communication, communi-cation, which mentions no further evacuation evacua-tion of territory, French battalions attacking at-tacking on the north bank of the Aisne were repulsed. The statement reads: Between Lens and Arras, after lively live-ly artillery tire, engagements occurred between reconnoltering detachments. Near Chivres and Missy, on the north bank of the Aisne, French battalions were repulsed. From advances into the French lines on the Aisne-Marne canal; northeast of Verdun, near tt. Mlhiel and o'n the west slope of the Vosges and in the plain and valley, storming detachments detach-ments broutrht back forty prisoners. Three hostile airplanes were shot down. |
