ICil SHIPPED 10 ISLii OF JAVA Galigher Machinery Company Com-pany Sends Filter Presses to Far-away Land. Four carloads of machinery were started start-ed from Salt .Lake yesterday for the island of Java. The machinery will be listed as extra fast freight over the Oregon Ore-gon Short Line and the Union Pacific and connections, In order to reach New York In time to be loaded on a boat leaving New York for Java via the Suez canal on November 17. The machinery consists of fourteen Kelly Alter presses, destined for use by a large Dutch sugar retining company In Java. Heretofore Java has secured practically prac-tically all of its machinery of this nature from Germany. Tiie 'war has stopped the German exports and the countries in the quadruple entente are using their machinery ma-chinery factories almost solely for the manufacture of munitions of war, leaving the Untied States with practically no rival in the manufacture of industrial machinery. The presses sent to Java were manufactured manu-factured in Salt Lake by t he Galigher Machinery company for the Kelly Filter Press company. The Kelly press is the invention of the late D. J. Kelly of this ;eity. It is used extensively in milling ore 1 and In the refining of sugar. These presses are used extensivelv in almost every part of the world. However, yesterday's yes-terday's shipment of these was the first ever sent to Java, and probably the first exportation of any kind to that far-off island from this city. Java is a Dutch possession. Its principal industries are the growing of coffee and sugar.
