Show jAPPDiNTIVE OFFICERS K GETTING KIOUS Much Discussion at Provo as to Who Will Head Departments. Special to The Tribune. PROVO, Nov. 9. It is generally believed be-lieved that there will be a reorganization reorganiza-tion in the police and other departments depart-ments of the city government when tho newly-elected mayor goes into office, am! accordingly tho politicians are guessing as to who will be placed at the head of eaeh division. There is one holdover commissi oner, LeKoy Dixon, and H. J. V. Goddard is tho commissioner-elect to succeed himself. Therefore tho only change will be in the mayoralty, a-nd it is said by some of the knowing ones that the two commissioners com-missioners are in favor of the men already al-ready holding the appointive offices. Jesse Ma n waring is the present chief of police, and no matter what changes are desired .by the mayor-elect, if the two commissioners unite on Manwaring he will remain at the head of the police po-lice department. There are, however, several candidates in the field for the appointment of chief. W. I1. Oleon' is one of them and it is said he has the hacking of many of the Goddard and Daniels supporters. C. F. "Westrope also is being boomed for the office, and it is understood he has the support of the mayor-elect. In the past Commissioner LcRoy Dixon has been at the heacT of the public safety department, and if he retains that position in the new organi zation he will be expected to name the chief, and that right, it is said, will be respected. It is not thought that the present chief of the fire department, Joseph W. Loveless, will bo molestod. The selection of a fire chief in the paBt has been left to the members of the tire department, and the firemen are unanimous for Loveless, bo some of the men saw For -justice of the peace there have been two or three men mentioned. Among them are James K. Snow, Thomas E. Thurman and J. H. Frisby. Frisbv has the advantage of holding : the office now, and if the men who put him there in the first place want him to continue he is very likelv to receive the appointment again. Thurman and Snow were both hard workers for Daniels, and if he wishes to reward either of them by appointing him police po-lice judge he must necessarily get the approval of at least one of ' the commissioners. com-missioners. Rod Snow, a eon of James E. Snow, is now superintendent of waterworks, but there are many of the politicians who say that this position is to be given to someone else; just who those that know will not tell. Then again, there are some who say that there will be no changes, except that Daniels will merely step in and take the same departments de-partments to look after that the outgoing out-going mayor had and all of the department de-partment chiefs will .be reappointed. |
