Show UNFORTUNATE COUPLE I, GIVEN THEIR FREEDOM ! Judge Morse Declines to Prosecute : ; Young Man Wlo Burglarized ' ' His Home. "If they had to go to state prison ! it would probably make criminals of ' tliem. r teel that they have probably ! been punished enough, and 1 understand that both Haulier and his wife now have ; employment to go to since their straits have become known.'' So said Judge C. W. Morse of the Third district court last night, after ; he had notified the police that he would ; not prosecute Fritz Hauber, aged 19, and his girl wife, Hilda, aged 18. Mr. , - and Mrs. Hauber were arrested Monday 1 night and locked in the city -jail on a l ; chnrge of burglary, after they had admitted ad-mitted to Judge Morse that the husband had entered the home of the judge and stolen an overcoat and a few other articles. The overcoat was pawned for a dollar. The young couple went back to the home of Judge Morse Monday night, returned the articles and confessed. con-fessed. Haulier's pitiful story was published in The Tribune. Tt aroused public interest in-terest and many came forward with olTers of assistance and emplovment. Judge Morse had no disposition ' to he harsh with the voung couple and, with the assurance that thev will be given an opportunity to make an honorable and honest living, thev left the city jail last night at 6:30, happier than they have been for many months. |
