Haines Has $35 to Squander on Uncle Samuel Statistics Commissioner Saves Rent to "Blow" on Office Postage Stamps. N.OVV that his office has been removed re-moved from a dow mown business block to the new capitol. II. T. Haines, state commissioner of immigration, labor and statistics, has J35 a mouth to spend. Formerly the commissioner expended this amount monthly, from the Tund of hio department, for rent. It always cost him some pangs to do it, too, for he saw innumerable in-numerable needs for it in the immigration, immigra-tion, labor or statistics department. With the state offices occupying quarters quar-ters at the beautiful statebouse "out of the high-rent district: beautiful view." etc. Mr. Haines finds his office in the possession of some loose change. Who will get it? Immigration, labor, or statistics? sta-tistics? In all probability, says Mr. Haines, Uncle Sam will get most of it. Ever since the creation of the office, the commissioner com-missioner of immigration, labor and statistics sta-tistics has been short of stamps. He has not had sufficient postage provided in his biennial appropria tions from the legislature to answer all the inquiries that officially come to him, also requests for statistics. But with the rent money all. now. as the poet says, there is nothing to it.
