Show FIFE CORPS FOB ClOEHilTIflLIOi Organization Is Largest in High School History and Makes Progress. The cadet battalion of the Salt Lake high school will have a fife corps. Commandant Com-mandant W. C. Webb has been considering consid-ering the organization of the now corps and It has been decided to havo somo members of the drum corps join tho life corps. The high school boys have been in much need of a life corps, and' with this addition to the battalion the local organization organ-ization will rank with the best in the country. At present the school calls and assemblies arc given by the drums and trumpets, but with the addition of the fifos It Is probable that flfen and drums will take a place with the trumpets. Fifes and drums are now being used at the West Point Military academy. Wayne Carbis, chief drummer, will have charge of tho new corps, as ho heads the drum corps. Carbis has se- 1 lected seven boys who will play the fifes. Thov are Chief Drummer Wayne Carbis, Corporal Lcland Cowle. William Stab, Wilford Bengtzen, Shirley Wimmer. David Da-vid Geiger and .lames Smith. The remainder re-mainder of the drum corps will continue to play the drums Tho drill of tho battalion yesterday afternoon was the beat yet held nt the high school this year. A parade was held and all cadets marie a good showing. No drill will bo held tomorrow. Commandant William C. AVebb is well pleased with the progrcsa of the battalion bat-talion this year, as the cadets have learned every exercise and have done more in a brief time than any battalion In previous years, although it is the largest body In tho history of the school. |
