Brooks, the lS-ycar-old messenger boy of the local United States weather office, has been appointed by the head of the department at Washington, Wash-ington, D. C, to the position of assistant observer of the station at Fresno, Cal., with an increase in salary of So00 a year. Official notice of tho appointment was contained in a letter, received yesterday by Section Director A. II. Thlesscn of the local bureau. The appointment becomes be-comes effective March 1. Younfir Brooks is a Salt. Lake boy, son of William Brooks, SfM Weat Third North street. October 1, 1U09, he went to work as messenger for the weather office. Since that time he bus advanced rapidly rapid-ly in knowledge of weather lore and has increased his knowledge ty talcing pe-cltl pe-cltl science woric in tlie Salt Lake high school. Last October he look the civil service examination for assistant observer ob-server and the letter received yesterday stnted that he passed with excellent showing. |
