Show PYTHIANS ASSEMBLE FOR GOLDEN JUBILEE Supreme Council Begins Sessions Today In Washington; Bryan to Delivor Address. WASHINGTON, Fob. IS Delegates from practically every state, province and territory of the North American, continent conti-nent were arriving In Washington tonJpht for the convention of the supreme council, coun-cil, Knights of Pythias, which begins sessions tomorrow to continue until Saturday Sat-urday night. The calling to ordpr of the convention will mark the opening of the celebration of the golden Jubilee, commemorating the foundation of the order of the Knights of Pythias here fifty years ago, and similar celebrations will bo held by local councils in more than 7000 cities, towns and villages of the United States and Canada. The convention will be addressed by several high officers of the federal government, gov-ernment, Including Secretary Bryan, and the delegates will be received by President Presi-dent Wilson at the White houBe. Fully 60,000 representative members of the order or-der arc expected to attend. One of the features of tho observance will bo simultaneous burning tomorrow night of the lights of Pytliianism blue, red nnd yellow on more thaa 20,000 altars al-tars throughout the country, Tomorrow afternoon Secretary Bryan, as the past chancellor of the Lincoln, Neb., lodge, is to deliver the principal address of tho convention. He will speak on "Fraternity as Exemplified by the "Order of the Knights of Pythias." The order was founded In Washington, February 19, 1S64. by thirteen government govern-ment clerks, headed by Justus Hcnrv Rathbonc. Today It boasts nearly 800,000 members. |
